Have you tried sending American friends to Italian cities' web sites (Comune di Torino, Padova, Verona, and so on) so they can plan a trip? Surprisingly, most city sites are in Italian only. It is almost embarrassing.
Comune di Torino in particular has a list of languages from Chinese to others I never heard of, but no English (never mind French or German). it states the English version is currently not available. During the Winter Olympics we were all polyglots, now it looks like we've imploded inside an old palace courtyard and lifted the communication drawbridge.
How are we going to support one of our key industries if we stop the dialogue at the door? Note, social networks in related instances are also only in Italian. Which kind of welcome are we giving to foreign visitors, Ministro al Turismo and Mayors?
