I am a Fulbright scholar this year at Santa Clara University, on a special program designed to provide scientific people with business capabilities, to help them start an innovation-based company or make an existing one rock.
The program is named BEST (Business Exchange Student Training) and is unique for Italy to date. It was initiated by the American ambassador in Rome Mr. Spogli in 2006 and it is at its second edition this year.
My technical background is in Integrated Optics and Computer Science, with a focus on sensors and software that let machines "observe" the real world and understand the semantics of what they perceive. I hold a PhD in Computer Vision and won an award for best Italian thesis in Artificial Intelligence in 2004. From 2005 to 2008 I have worked with the European Commission at the Directoire General JRC (Joint Research Center).
