Health insurance options for parents immigrating to the US

Last year my mother moved to the US to live with my family. I became a US citizen many years ago, and was therefore able to sponsor her for permanent residency. I did so without using a lawyer and the process was somewhat time consuming (lots of paperwork), but not difficult. The application was approved in about 8 months. In the meantime, my mom used temporary health insurance (there are many plans available, e.g. for turists) to have some coverage for unexpected medical expenses. The problem…See More

Matteo Fabiano replied to Massimo Arrigoni's discussion Spain, Italy: time to be serious about promoting new businesses
"I also looked into the Flexsecurity framework and it does seem like a reasonable middle-ground approach. I think it is frankly too much to expect that a labor reform along those lines will gather enough political steam to pass under this government.…"

Cheapest way to ship heavy boxes

Do you happen to know what is the cheapest way to ship a couple of heavy boxes from Italy to the US? We got a quote for around 500 EURO for 2 boxes of 30KG each. Does it sound reasonable?Which carrier do you normally use for this kind of shipment?Note: the shipment is brochures and merchandising (so no real commercial value).See More

Young entrepreneurs: what to learn from Foursquare and Groupon

I just read this really interesting interview with Andrew Mason (CEO of Groupon) and Dennis Crowley (CEO of Foursquare).

Fellow young entrepreneurs (wait, at 38, I'm probably not a young entrepreneur anymore, oh well), there's a lot to learn…

Hi,
I've been living in the beautiful bay Area for over 8 yrs. I just joined the site and I wished I knew about it earlier. I am a Solar Product Developer Designer, Industrial Designer by Education, looking for Italian American professional connections. Ideally I would like to work in the US but for Italian Companies or vice versa.

Michele, in Italy they've created sort of a similar network, using Basecamp, I believe. You should contact them and have them switch over to this system. There should be one central online community for BAIA.
