During my recent stay in Italy I learned about a recall of DePuy's hip implants, which allegedly contain cobalt and chrome in dosages high enough to be toxic to the patients who received such implants. It is recommended that people who underwent a hip replacement procedure check with their surgeon to find out whether or not the implant used was of the type that has been recalled. More information on the class action lawsuit is available here, although individual lawsuits could also be filed. But most important is to determine whether a new procedure, with replacement of the implant, is necessary.
In Italy, apparently while some ASL have reached out to patients to alert them, others have not.
Informazioni relative in italiano sono disponibili a questo link e su altri siti che citano il richiamo di tali protesi.
