The Future of the Forum: Internet Communities and the Public Interest
Saturday, December 5, 2009 on the UC Berkeley campus
Presented by the Berkeley Center for New Media (BCNM)
The Future of the Forum will facilitate a day of conversations between industry pioneers, such as Jimmy Wales (Founder of Wikipedia) and Dick Costolo (COO of Twitter), and faculty and students from the nation's highest-ranked public university about the link between Internet forums and the “public good.” We will consider how participatory and collaboratively authored online communities, discussion boards, blogs, and social networking sites give rise to new definitions of “the public,” benefit or detract from the public interest, and make possible new forms of civic participation and responsibility.
